Murphy A146CM
This large distinctive AC Mains valve radio
(lw & mw bands), was made in 1950, as a console modification (hence "CM") to an earlier model, which was made in 1949. I, personally have worked on both models, and found that the earlier set had an auto transformer in the power supply, and had r.f valves like 10C1, 10F9, etc, which were used in AC/DC sets, whilst my modified version had a full wound mains transformer, and had the 6C1, 6F9 , etc front end valves.
It's ironic that both models of the A146 appeared in my house at the same time, although the earlier model belonged to a customer. Both sets, however, had
wiring harnesses between the ("upper") radio chassis, and the ("lower") power amp. chassis, and all the wiring insulation (rubber), had deteriorated very badly. All were re-wired for safety's sake.
The
Murphy 146 Console is a great set , when restored, and has excellent sound quality !
