U159. This a.c/d.c mains valve radio was made in 1950, and employs long
& medium wave bands.
The
valve line-up incorporates, UCH42, UF41, UBC41, UL41, & UY41.
This
set has a plastic cabinet, as a change to the usual bakelite style. It is
one of several coloured plastic designs by EKCO, others including the models
U122 (cream), and the U195 (maroon).
On
my set, the original knobs were missing, so I installed some temporary ones.
The original ones were grey in colour, with plastic transparent surrounds.
These surrounds tend to break (due to age-hardening of the plastic) if the
knobs require removal from the set to gain access for repairs to the chassis.
The springs which secure the knob to the control shaft, can also be a cause
of the plastic breaking, due to them seizing up. If anyone has spare knobs
(tuning & volume, complete with plastic surrounds), please let me know
